Springfield Public Pools Now Open
Outdoor pools opened Monday, May 20
The Springfield-Greene County Park Board’s outdoor pool season opened Monday, May 20, at 1 p.m. Grant Beach, Silver Springs and Westport pools open Monday. Fassnight and Meador pools, along with McGee/McGregor wading pool, open Tuesday.
Outdoor pools are open six days a week, 1- 6:30 p.m., through August 11. Maintenance days are staggered Monday through Wednesday, and all outdoor pools are open Thursday through Sunday. McGee/McGregor Wading Pool is open 10 a.m.- 12 p.m. and 1-4 p.m. for children 6 and under.
“We have at least five pools open every day of the week, including indoor facilities at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers,” said Marc Baker, Aquatics Coordinator for the Park Board. “All eight pools are open Thursdays through Sundays, so there are plenty of options to choose from.”
Park Board pools experienced record attendance last summer, with 98,331 pool entries. That number is expected to increase this summer with the addition of Doling Family Center Aquatics Facility, which opened in February. Before replacing the old Doling outdoor pool this year, the Park Board completely renovated Fassnight (2009), Silver Springs (2010), Grant Beach (2011) and Westport (2012) outdoor pools, adding splash features, slides and other amenities. Attendance at each pool has doubled after renovations.
Daily admission remains $2.25 for youth and seniors, $2.75 for adults, the same price since 2009. Admission drops to $1, or a free with a canned food item donation at 5:30 p.m. Discount coupon books and all-season pool passes are available. Regular outdoor pool admission prices apply to the indoor aquatics facilities at Chesterfield and Doling Family Centers, 1-6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday.
Splash ‘n Sizzle events return in Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day, plus weekend evenings in July, with $1 admission, or free with a canned food item. Last year, discount pool entries generated more than six tons of canned food items, which were donated to Ozarks Food Harvest.
