PCCC Celebrates 20th Year of Great Golf in Springfield |

Great crowds and outstanding weather (with the exception of a late final round rain shower) were the norm for this year’s Price Cutter Charity Championship event held August 13-16 at the Highland Springs Country Club in Springfield. Following an opening two rounds of play among the touring PGA professionals on the Nationwide Tour, where extremely low scoring was common place, the final 36 holes saw the Highland Springs layout even things up a bit, with tour veteran Justin Bolli of Atlanta, Georgia ultimately claiming the championship crown.

Women's City Golf Championships at Rivercut Golf Course |

Drury University senior golfer Allison Rasnick posted a two shot victory on the field Sunday, August 2 to claim the 2009 Springfield Women’s City Golf Championship contested at the Rivercut Golf Course. Rasnick, a native of Marshfield, Missouri carded a one under par round of 71 on Sunday to go with an opening round of 75, good for a two-over par total of 146, two strokes better than runner up Emily Potts.

The 28 year-old Anna Kournikova came to Springfield as a member of the St. Louis Aces. Because of a wrist injury, Anna couldn't participate in the match, but maybe that was somewhat appropriate when you consider that she is just as well-known for her off-court image as she's known for what she's accomplished on the court.

Hard Knocks and Harder Hugs on Rugby Pitch
The Springfield Rugby Football Club hosted a dozen regional and one international team to their Summer 7's Tournament on June 27th at the SRFC Pitch in Brookline, Missouri west of the Springfield city limits. Teams from Kansas City, St. Louis, Arkansas as well a two of the SFRC teams and the famed Pill Harriers squad from South Wales, England squared off in the day long event despite a heat index in excess of 105. Following pool play which allowed each team of seven the opportunity to face one another, the visiting St. Louis Bombers captured the overall tournament title with a 14-7 decision over the Pill Harriers.
